Our Boats - Custom made for you! Below are pictures of our original prototype boats.
In 2008, one of these boats, O-Sole-Me-O, sailed 1,993 miles in 78 day, while reaching speeds of up to 5 mph! Our new mini boat is the Passages 56. This boat is designed to do two things; 1) to sail directly downwind month after month without any outside assistance and , 2) be capable of crossing the worlds oceans. All Passages 56 boats are cast from a hand molded hull "plug" shown below at Holland's Boat Shop in Belfast, ME, where the master mold was cast.
With poly-foam floatation, all Passages 56 boats are strong and unsinkable. All of our new boats have 17 pounds of lead ballast and a severely swept back fin to keep them from getting fouled in seaweed. The Passages 56 design also makes for a fast, stable, and self-righting boat capable of withstanding the most severe conditions of the North Atlantic. The simple self-tending sail design has only one moving part to make the Passages 56 rig extremely reliable. Equipped with a GPS transponder, each Passages 56 can be tracked on a frequent basis, and if stranded local authorities may be alerted with the possibility of recovery. After sailing for 78 days, our prototype, O-Sole-Me-O, floundered on an uninhabited island, and her onboard GPS transponder allowed a local fisherman to recover her after we notified local authorities in Canada (read more about O-Sole-Me-O here).
