K-Kids Kruiser is a very special vessel.  Like Bluefish, she stopped having her position reports posted on iBOATtrack.com on the evening of May 31.  However, K-Kids Kruiser  was lucky to still be aboard TSSOM.  After an extremely short period, CAPT Larry Wade, TSSOM's Master, recognized that this GPS transmitter had also suffered a permanent failure.  Arrangements were then made, through Educational Passages, to have iBOATtrack.com send a new GPS transmitter unit to St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada-- TSSOM's next port-of-call.

When TSSOM arrived in St. John's, Newfoundland, the old GPS system aboard K-Kids Kruiser was removed from and expertly replaced by TSSOM's crew and staff with the new, working transmitter on June 15.

K-Kids Kruiser was launched on, June 19 at 11:15 AM EDT about 200+ miles East of Cape Hatteras when TSSOM was south of the Gulf Stream as she traveled to Baltimore, MD.

In Baltimore, TSSOM docked next to the Nuclear Ship (NS) SAVANNAH, and TSSOM's Baltimore visit represented the first call to that port  by a state academy training ship since the now-retired (and reefed) Texas Clipper was there in the summer of 1992.

In Baltimore the Maine Maritime Academy hosted a reception for alumni and friends aboard NS SAVANNAH on the evening of June 22.  CLICK here to see pictures form the event.

Twenty-four days after launch, K-Kids Kruiser stopped reporting her position to iBOATtrack.com at 6 PM EDT on July 13 when 299 nautical miles SE of Halifax, NS, Canada.

When K-Kids Kruiser's last position report was received she had sailed approximately 1,470 miles in 24 days.

On July 21 the GPS system aboard K-Kids Kruiser began to intermittently post position reports again as she sailed east-northeast.  Since August 29, K-Kids Kruiser' has been transmitting position reports on a regular basis.  We hope that she continues to do so throughout the remainder of her Atlantic circumnavigation.

On July 27 the original GPS position tracking system purchased from  iBOATtrack.com and installed aboard K-Kids Kruiser was inspected.  When opened (see picture below) there was no indication of leakage or corrosion.

Rather the battery installed in this AX-Tracker T3, by AXONN Global Data proved to be from June 2006. We very much hope that the batteries installed in all the other GPS tracking systems purchased from  iBOATtrack.com continue to function until our boats find landfall.
