Dick Baldwin, the inspiration behind and founder of Educational Passages, was Dave Lathrop's college roommate too many years ago to want to keep count of-- let's just be satisfied in saying that they've known one another for a number of years. In fact, it was Dick's wife, Rosemary, who first introduced Dave to his wife, Pam, over 2 score and 2 years ago. Dave got very interested in helping Dick with Educational Passages when more than two years ago Dick told him about his new project and idea to sail mini-boats across the Atlantic Ocean. Since then Dave has served as Educational Passages's webmaster and technical advisor. Dave remembered when in college Dick made model boats for the kids to sail in a local park, and how much everyone learn from that and enjoyed doing it, and he knew immediately that Educational Passages was a great idea! Dick and Dave (and their families) don't get to see one another very often however as Dick lives in Belfast, Me, and Dave lives in Maryland. So when they do get together, it's a big deal. The pictures below are from a recent reunion when Dave and his wife were in Portland visiting grandchildren and drove up to Belfast to visit with Dick and Rosemary.
The maps above came from Dave's APRS tracker (KB3RRL-9) connected to the internet - it works much like the GPS tracking devices that allow each of Educational Passages's mini-boats to be tracked as they travel the world's oceans.
